The Roxbury Goes "Public"
Catskills' Coolest Getaway Now Cooler Than Ever With New Public Lounge -- Just In Time to Spice up Ski Season
Roxbury Invites Guests To Head For Its Newly-Happening Hills With Two-Day Ski Packages For Two, Including Accommodations, Breakfast, Lift Tickets, Equipment Rental, Two Spa Treatments And Drink Specials At Cool New Gathering Spot
ROXBURY, NY, November 15, 2005—Last year, The Roxbury redefined Catskills cool when it first welcomed guests to enjoy its fabulously funky 11-room boutique motel. This year, just in time for ski season, The Roxbury is turning up the winter heat with a whole new meaning for the term “Public” Relations.
The Roxbury’s new neighbor, Public Lounge, provides the region with a new gathering spot that combines the casual comforts of the country with big city cool. From the outside, the Public Lounge looks like a blacksmith’s shop that blends in perfectly with the region’s rustic landscape. That’s because it is, and it does. This is a place that seamlessly combines the past with the future, offering locals and visitors a place where they are welcome to kick up their heels…or their boots…in an atmosphere that is vibrant, refreshing and welcoming.
So what is it that sets the Public Lounge apart?
Is it the Mondrianesque backlit color panels surrounding the bar? The shimmering metal panels catching and throwing the light throughout the room? The plush couches on one side of the bar? Or the tables and chairs on the other? Is it the music videos and art projections sparkling off that deep red wall?
It’s all those things and more. And we have not even taken you into the bathroom yet. Now that is a work of art. But enough of the mental pictures… check out the real thing at www.theroxburymotel.com/CocktailLounge.
“We are working with Public Lounge proprietor and chief visionary Andrew Williams to do for the Catskills social scene what The Roxbury is doing for the lodging scene here,” said Greg Henderson, president of Masserson Properties, which owns and operates The Roxbury. “Andrew and his partner Juan Teran Navarro, both Manhattan architects, have done an amazing job designing a place that is inviting, intimate and completely original – and provides the perfect complement to what The Roxbury is all about.”
Andrew Williams added, “We met Gregory and his partner Joseph at a dinner party exactly a year ago and felt an immediate synergy with their sense of style. They were looking for a place close to The Roxbury to send their guests and we were looking to open up our own business. So in the spirit of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney, we found a barn, asked them if they wanted to invest, and now we’re putting on a show!”
The timing for the opening coincides with the kickoff of another Catskills ski season. Neighboring Plattekill Ski Center and nearby Bellayre Ski Center are gearing up for the annual influx of downhill revelers looking for fun on the slopes and even more fun off of them.
That is exactly what The Roxbury’s 2005-2006 ski packages are all about. Beginning at only $500 (for two nights, two people), these packages set the stage for affordable alpine adventures in an environment as cool as the temps at the top of the hill. The packages include accommodations, breakfast, lift tickets, equipment rentals, two spa treatments and creative cocktails at the Public Lounge. And since skiing is so often a family affair, The Roxbury welcomes children under 12 to ski and stay free as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
The Roxbury (www.theroxburymotel.com) is the brainchild of Gregory Henderson and partner Joseph Massa, who used their more than 20 years of theater experience to put an entirely refreshing twist on the classic country motel experience. The property features vibrant colors, sleek, classy and thoroughly modern design elements and a full range of luscious amenities that rival any of today’s leading luxury hotels.
The Roxbury’s state-of-the-art amenities include in-room high speed internet access, personal entertainment centers including televisions, DVD players and MP3 CD playback; Egyptian cotton towels; extra-plush, extra-long pillowtop mattresses; microwaves and refrigerators; curved shower rods (offering an added 12-inches of bathtub/shower space); dual shower heads, complimentary continental breakfast, and the most popular amenity – access to a movie library of over 300 DVD’s including the American Film Institute’s top 100 movies of all time.
The Roxbury is part of Masserson Properties, a corporation founded by Henderson and Massa that is dedicated to the renovation, development and management of top quality lodging facilities for the discerning traveler. The company’s properties also include “Inspiration Peaks,” a glorious mountaintop house overlooking the crystal waters of the Pepacton reservoir and featuring some of the region’s most breathtaking mountain views. The luxurious four-bedroom, three-bathroom house sleeps 2-10 people and is perfect for a romantic getaway or an unforgettable escape with your favorite people.
